Community Woodland
This forgotten patch of woodland has sprung up between a council tower block and a row of terraced housing. It has a magical quality of its own we were keen to preserve. Less is sometimes more: One fairly radical design option open for a Landscape Architect is to do nothing. In this case we wished to leave the area as natural as possible providing only access and minimal facilities: oak steps for access and two timber seating/play areas for forest school education. The idea was to transform the space through use rather then expensive infrastructure. Within days of completing the steps down the steep banks local primary school children began outdoor classes and many local people had discovered this magical and forgotten space for the first time. This space is designed to be integrated with the spiral garden community agriculture project which acts as a gateway to this wilder world.
